Best wishes to 2nd Horn Player

The band would like to send their best wishes to our former 2nd Horn Player Malcolm Whitfield after he has just undergone a successful hip replacement 3 weeks ago and is now free of pain and regaining his mobility. Malcolm decided to step down from contest commitments and he is hoping to return to rehearsals with Driffield Silver Band next week. Dave Vivian, East Riding of Yorkshire Band Chairman presented him with a framed print of the band from the areas in March as a momento of his time with us. He asked to be remembered to the band and wishes us well for the future. He is keen to get a copy of the band CD Marching Onward on its release.

Sound of Summer

filey [71752]

The band are very pleased to announce their association with Artist Rob Gobel from Kilham in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Rob has produced a mixed media image of the band playing at the Crescent Gardens bandstand Filey at their concert in September 2015. Rob has beautifully captured the feel of a summer bandstand concert in this wonderful setting and very generously donated the copyright of the image to the band for use in fundraising. We have produced a signed limited edition fine art print, which will be available from the band website along with a range of unsigned prints greetings cards and gift items. The original work will be on display at the bands summer concerts  and Rob will be attending some of these events and is doing some other sketches of the band  through the season.

Band secures KCOM Grant

The Band would like to officially give thanks to KCOM for their kind support via their Community Grants Scheme which has enabled us to purchase a brand new set of music stands. The Band currently compete in the Second Section of the North of England region and are proud to have represented the North of England at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain on several occasions, most recently in 2013 and 2014. However without an official sponsor we rely heavily on donations, the money raised by playing at engagements and the on-going support of players, friends and families.

In August 2015 the Band’s treasurer, Miss Chris Dunn, set about applying for funding from local companies to help ensure that the audiences across Hull, The East Riding and the surrounding area have more of a professional experience when attending one of the bands performances.

The Band where delighted to hear in September that they had been successful in securing £500 towards the purchase of new music stands. Without the support of KCOMs Community Grant we would not have been able to purchase a new set of stands, which cost over £800 in total.

The Band welcomed the delivery of their new, much sturdier, music stands in December.

The Band’s chairman, Mr David Vivian reports that the stands have “already proved to be of great benefit to the professional presentation of the Band and have most recently been used whilst recording the Band’s CD ‘Marching Onwards’”

We are keen to welcome contact with anyone who feels they may be able to support the Band. If you or your company feel that you are able to help please contact the us via email: friends@eryb.co.uk for more information.

New Leadership at East Riding of Yorkshire

It is with regret that we announce the resignation of our Musical Director Ian Scott. Ian has had a very successful three and a half year association with the band, including two trips to Cheltenham for the Third Section National Finals and a win in the North of England Third Section Regional Championships in 2014. Ian’s professional approach has reflected on the band, who enjoy a strong following in the East Riding and beyond. Ian has realised that the combined commitments as Musical Director at East Riding, his renewed playing career and the travel involved, meant something had to give and it was his bass trombone that won out!

We are pleased to announce that Mr Garry Hallas MD at Emley Band, a long-time friend of East Riding is to take the band to the Second Section Regional Championships in Durham in 2016. We are inviting applications for the position of Musical Director after the area championships. We are looking for a capable, committed and ambitious individual who can progress with the band. We have an established concert programme and are looking to increase our contesting presence. We are fortunate to have a full band with strong soloists and good rehearsal attendance. We are also planning a recording project this year and looking forward to Hull City of Culture 2017.

David Vivian
Chairman of The East Riding of Yorkshire Band
