Strike up the Band

The Band’s first concert of the year took place on Saturday 2nd February at the Anlaby Park Methodist Church as part of their “Ignition” appeal to benefit the local community. The programme was well received and an excellent start for 2013. Musical Director, Ian Scott received much positive comment from the audience and said “there was some slick playing and good sounds being made”. There were solos from James Kerridge, Jim Johnson, Mike Waudby and Mike Hedley. With music ranging from Army of the Nile, to Strike up the Band and Suite Gothique, there was certainly plenty of variety for everyone.

The Band has been pleased to welcome a number of new players to it’s ranks over the winter: Karen Wain (solo horn), Gill Rice and Jenny Russell (cornet) and Shane Foster (BBb bass). Garry Hallas (percussion) will also be helping the band out over the next few weeks. They, along with the other members of ERYB, will be working hard as we approach the Regional Contest at Darlington on March 17th. The test piece this year is “Hollywood” by Goff Richards and we will be giving our first performance of it on Saturday March 9th  at Cottingham Methodist Church in the “Shirley Levitt Memorial Concert”. Shirley was a loyal member of the band until she sadly passed away last year. Further information is available on this website.
